The Lego Movie 2
Finishing Breakdown
Explore the magic behind the color grades in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part! Supervising colorist Eric Whipp and I teamed up on this AWESOME project back in 2018.
One particularly challenging scene was Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi's throne room. Lit fairly neutral, the directors wanted a distinct change during the big action sequence in the third act. To achieve this, we split the scene down the middle. Eric created a striking monochromatic blue look for the fight, while I painstakingly relit my half with soft pinks and purples to add contrast and set the stage for what was to come.
Directed by Mike Mitchell and Trisha Gum, and produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, this project was a true collaborative effort. Eric Whipp and I worked closely to bring the directors' vision to life through our unique color grading styles.
